IPL 2023: 56th Match KKR vs RR: May 11, 2023

Jaiswal’s impressive score of 98 runs and Chahal’s contribution of 4 wickets.

Rajasthan Royals have made a spectacular comeback in the IPL, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens after winning just one of their previous six games. The victory lifts their net run rate to the second-best in the league behind Gujarat Titans, making it highly likely that they will qualify for the playoffs. The Royals restricted KKR to 149 for 8 after winning the toss and choosing to bowl. Yuzvendra Chahal became the leading wicket-taker in IPL history by taking four wickets in the match, while Yashasvi Jaiswal scored the IPL’s fastest-ever fifty. The Royals chased down their target in just 13.1 overs.

On his comeback for the Royals, Trent Boult had an impact by taking two wickets in his first two overs with the help of his fielders. Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana started their partnership slowly, but Iyer started hitting boundaries regularly from the ninth over onwards. Iyer was dismissed at the start of the 17th over, scoring 57 off 42 balls. Before Iyer’s dismissal, Chahal also took a wicket by catching Nitish at deep backward square leg in the 11th over. Chahal later took Shardul Thakur lbw while missing a sweep and Rinku Singh caught at long-off.

Jaiswal, who is known for hitting more fours and sixes than any other player in the first over of IPL 2023, made a spectacular start to the Royals’ chase. He hit Nitish aggressively, hitting sixes and fours in quick succession in the second-most expensive first over in the history of IPL. He missed breaking the record set by Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Chris Gayle against Mumbai’s Abu Nechim in Qualifier 2 in 2011 by just one run. Despite Jos Buttler’s early dismissal, Jaiswal continued his impressive form, scoring a lucky four and a six. He then went 4, 4, 4 off Shardul Thakur in the third over, driving and pulling and finding gaps effortlessly. Jaiswal ultimately scored 94 off 34 balls, finishing the game with a four. Sanju Samson also made a contribution to the Royals’ victory, scoring 21 off 21 balls and hitting three straight sixes off Anukul Roy in the 11th over.

Final Score

Kolkata Knight Riders      149/8

Rajasthan Royals       (13.1/20 overs, Total:150) 151/1
