IPL 2023 28th Match KKR vs DC: April 20, 2023

Delhi Captitals final registered thier first win in IPL 2023

The Delhi Capitals finally broke their five-game losing streak in IPL 2023 by defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders in a closely contested match. The Capitals struggled in their chase of 128 runs, as the Knight Riders relied heavily on spin bowling to overload their batters. However, David Warner’s fourth fifty of the season and Axar Patel’s steady presence at the crease ensured that the Capitals emerged victorious. The win was largely due to the Capitals’ strong bowling performance in the first innings, where Ishant Sharma, Anrich Nortje, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel took wickets to restrict the Knight Riders to a low score.
In the Knight Riders’ innings, Litton Das and Venkatesh Iyer were dismissed early by the Capitals’ pacers, while Ishant Sharma’s persistence earned him the wicket of Nitish Rana. Mandeep Singh and Rinku Singh were also dismissed, leaving the Knight Riders at a precarious 64 for 5. However, Jason Roy battled on and was joined by Andre Russell, who formed a partnership that raised hopes of a strong finish. The Knight Riders eventually finished at 128 for 9, with Russell remaining unbeaten on 33.
In their chase, the Capitals lost Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, and Phil Salt for low scores, leaving David Warner to hold up one end. However, Warner motored along and hit his fourth fifty of the season, taking the Capitals closer to the target. Manish Pandey provided valuable support and brought the equation to 35 in 42, but the Knight Riders removed Warner, Pandey, and Aman Khan in quick succession.
The Knight Riders’ Varun Chakravarthy bowled a dream 18th over, nearly dismissing Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav. However, the Capitals’ batters held on, and Nitish Rana’s tidy 19th over brought the equation down to seven off the final over. Despite having exhausted all 16 overs of spin available, the Knight Riders turned to pacer Kulwant Khejroliya for the final over. However, Axar Patel comfortably negated his challenge and finished the game with four balls to spare, giving the Capitals their first win of the season.
