Match No. 19 KKR vs SRH : April 14, 2023

In yesterday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 game at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) emerged victorious, beating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 23 runs. SRH batted first after losing the toss and posted a massive total of 228-4, thanks to Harry Brook’s unbeaten 100 off 55. KKR’s efforts fell short as they were restricted to 205-7, despite Nitish Rana’s 75 off 41 and Rinku Singh’s unbeaten 58 off 31.

KKR struggled from the start, losing Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a duck in the first over. Venkatesh Iyer and Sunil Narine also fell cheaply to Marco Jansen’s bowling, leaving KKR at 20-3. The partnership between Narayan Jagadeesan and Rana lifted KKR’s spirits, but Jagadeesan fell to Mayank Markande after a 62-run partnership. Andre Russell and Rinku couldn’t stay long at the crease either, and KKR was left with too much to do in the last over, despite Rinku’s valiant efforts.

On the other hand, Harry Brook made history by becoming the first player to score a century in IPL 2023, and SRH posted a mammoth total after being asked to bat first by KKR. Brook hammered 12 fours and three sixes and led his team to victory. Aiden Markram also played a crucial role by scoring a quickfire half-century.

Markande stood out with the ball, taking two wickets for SRH.

Despite Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh scoring fifties for KKR, it was Harry Brook who won the Player of the Match award for his sensational century.
